I meant to get up this morning at sunrise and go for my long run. I did. I really meant to. But oh my goodness was my bed cozy.
I told you this morning run thing was not going to happen.
BUT
The air stayed crisp and the sun hid behind clouds this morning so I decided I was going out for my long run NO MATTER WHAT.
So....
10am I did.
I made it 11kms, running 10:1 and it felt just fine. I probably could do 15 kms feeling the same. Perhaps next week I'll try.
I signed up for a 10km Run this Sunday, so I'll head out for a hard 30min run on Thursday.
The hard runs make the long runs easier.
As for an after run meal?
I ate a cup of left over noodles mixed with spinach, tomatoes, and canned Salmon. About two cups of food total. Just enough to replenish my muscles.
I manage a country homestead and the lives of my 4 babies ages 10,8,5 and 3. I LOVE TO RUN and NEED to keep healthy and fit for my SANITY!! Seriously....All problems are solved when I am running.
Making MY health a priority allows me to be the mother and wife that I need to be for them.

CRAZY HOT RUNS
This is how I look after a run these days. Well, especially since the temperature SOARED to a crazy 25C!!!
This weather won't last and from a running perspective I'M GLAD!!

You see...I've never been a MORNING RUNNER. In fact, there is nothing harder for me than getting out of bed and heading out the door BEFORE MY COFFEE!!
I will admit that finishing my run just as the sun crests is IN FACT an amazing feeling. I do love the feeling of accomplishment, and really I'll admit that once I'm out the door, the morning crisp air feels AMAZING. BUT...it took the Army and the threat of punishment to get me out of my bed. Been there, Done that....even have the T-shirt. No thanks, I put in my time.
When I ran the other day at 2pm....I was BOILING!! In fact I was crazy uncomfortable and miserable. I realized that if I am going to train for the MARATHON in October, I am GOING TO HAVE TO GET UP AT 5AM to go for my LONG RUNS.....or else run the risk of frying like an egg on the pavement.
I am NOT....NOT.....NOT looking forward to it.
Hmmmm maybe I'll surprise myself....but I doubt it.

6 MONTHS TO GO!!!!!
Under 180 Days!!!!!
O.K so my Marathon is now under 6 months away!! Oh how time flies. Looking at the ticker just made me panick!
Can I do it? will I be ready?
right now the task seems so DAUNTING!!
But I said I was going to do it. So I MUST!
Right now I can run 10 kms, by running 10min/walking 1min, and I can do it it at the Pace I need to run a 4hr marathon.
That is good, but I can't imagine going out for a 23 km long run!!! wow that is far!
I'm nervous....really nervous.

Acceptance
I was going to get up bright and early this morning to head out for my long run.
The air is crisp and the sun is up, so really...why not?
Why not?
Because I'm not a morning person. I would LIKE to be a morning person. In fact, when in the army, I just loved getting that run over with and getting on with my day.
But no....I like my coffee and my e-mail first thing.
I've come to accept that.
I can accept that there are some things that are just NOT GOING TO HAPPEN :)

MY ABS ARE KILLING ME!!!!!!!
Day 2 of weight training is ALWAYS worse than the first.
(lactic acid build up, and muscle repair in case you are wondering)
Oh the pain everytime I laugh....the glorious, wonderful pain.
I should really take the time to stretch more.
(stretching helps relieve some of the acid build up)

Together...Forever ;)
My husband joined us at the YMCA yesterday. While the kids were in swimming lessons we took off for a fast run across town.
I just love working out with him. It is one thing that we enjoy doing together. That, and parusing coffee shops.
So nice to have a partner to keep me motivated.

Don't fret. Tomorrow is another day.
Trying to watch what you eat, or are you on a diet and trying to lose weight??
Have a craving?
Indulge.
Well, don't eat the entire bag of cookies, but do allow yourself space in your diet for those goodies you love.
If you avoid completely, all you will do is focus on it, and when you finally give in, you will eat WAY more than what you will feel good about it.
So leave room for a cookie or two....no not at every meal.
And if you mess up and eat too much?
Don't worry.
Tomorrow is another day. Don't punish yourself. Just start over and know better next time.

Nutrition Tips Continued
Want younger, healthier looking skin?
Genetics play a HUGE role, but here are a few tips to help slow the process a little.
1) DON'T SMOKE. For so many reasons, don't smoke. The puckering around the cigarette also causes those fine lines around your mouth to appear quicker.
2) KEEP HYDRATED. Drinking excessive amounts of water does absolutely nothing for your wrinkles. BUT!! being hydrated helps. So, if you drink caffeine and alcohol, make sure you are also drinking enough water to keep up your detoxifying stores of H2O ;)
3) SUN SCREEN. This one should be obvious these days.
4) GET PLENTY OF REST. This allows your cells to rejuvenate. Also gets rid of yucky morning puffiness. If you want to test this theory. Have a baby and don't sleep through the night for a year.
5) EAT YOUR VEGGIES. Eat foods rich in nutrients such as Retinol A found in...CARROTS!! Yup. Forgo that expensive cream, and eat a Carrot. Good for your eyes as well. Also, all those GREEN VEGGIES, rich in antioxidants will help get rid of old cells. (Wow I'm so technical) Oh, and again...antioxidants in creams is useless since it does not penetrate your skin deep enough.
Last but CERTAINLY NOT LEAST....DRUM ROLL PLEASE...
6)AEROBIC EXERCISE!!!! That's right. Sweating cleanses your pores AND...gets your blood pumping (capillaries in your face) giving your that youthful glow. Don't believe me? Count the number of old looking wrinkly faces in a marathon. You won't find many. And the ones you do? are most likely 80 year olds that look 60.
Hmmm....I'm starting to notice a trend here on this whole EXERCISE being the key to a lot of health issues.

More POOP Matters
Since we are on the topic of our intestines....let's cover Colon Cleanses/Detox shall we??
Many people like the cleanses because they loose 5 pounds fast, and they just feel better.
I won't dispute the 5 pound thing, or perhaps the exhilaration that comes with losing 5 pounds in two days.
However. Here are some facts for you.
1) Most of the weight you loose is water weight. You will gain it back as soon as you eat/drink something.
2) If you are regular (as in poop once a day...) there is not 5 pounds of poop in your guts
3) With these Detox diets, they usually put you on a low calorie diet...as in rice, vegetables, ect, so your body does lose some weight. HOWEVER.... When at rest, if you are not eating, your body burns protein (your muscle) and NOT FAT because it takes less energy to do so.
Just so you know.
4) You have bacteria in your intestines for A REASON. To digest and break down your food. When you go on some detox/cleansing diets, you are ridding your body of the good stuff as well. This is not good, and can cause digestive problems later on.
SIDE NOTES
*After a cleanse/detox you should ALWAYS take accidophilis supplements. That will restore the good flora in your intestines. And...FYI you should also do this after ANTIBIOTIC treatments. This is a good thing to do for you children after they take Antibiotics for those ear infections. Just head over to your local health food store and get the good stuff.
*When you are losing weight, any more than 2/3 pounds a week, you are also losing water and protein. Than why in the beginning of a diet do we tend to lose more faster? Because you are shedding EXCESS water that you are carrying (bloat) most likely due to salt intake from eating crappy food.
*Some people use laxatives as a weight loss solution...They don't work for the same reasons as above, AND cause serious nutrient absorbtion issues. Stay away

POOP MATTERS
I know. you are thinking, she is not going to seriously talk about POOP is she?
Yup.
So here you go.
A good indicator of your digestive health and nutrition is the analysis of your poop. If your poop is off, most likely so is your nutrition, and overall health due to absorption of vital nutrients.
This is what Healthy poop should look like.
* Light Brown in colour (kind of like Graham Crackers)
* solid, not broken up or splat-like
* The piece should be long...C or S curved.
* It should not be overly difficult to get out
* It should not contain white worm like things in it...or blood(obviously)
* It should not smell bad. Seriously. I am not talking roses...just not fan worthy.
* You should have a movement every day.
* It should not be painful.
These are guidelines. If it floats it means it is fatty and your body is not absorbing it.
To get the above proper poop conditions...
Make sure you are eating Fruits and veggies (more nutrients)
Increase fibre in your diet (add bulk to it)
limit caffeine and alcohol intake (dehydrating, and loose stools)
Drink Water (helps it process and helps in the elimination process)
Stop Smoking (It causes loose stools)
Limit fast food junk filled with preservatives
Watch your saturated fats (hamburgers, and cheese)
EXERCISE!!! Believe it or not, EXERCISE helps GITT (Gastro.Intestinal Transit Time) That is the time it takes for food to move through your system.
Very important in people 50 and over.
So next time you are sitting on the Toilet....take a Peek, and check out your intestinal Health!!
Yup.

Run don't walk
I needed to pick up a parcel at our neighbors down the road last night so I decided to walk down and enjoy the sunset.
It was a glorious and refreshing walk. So much better than flunking in front of the T.V.
However I had to laugh because I felt this URGE to run. It is so awkward for me to just go for a nice slow walk. I NEEDED to run that pavement. So I did. In my jeans and sneakers. I stopped when the cars came cause I felt stupid ;)
Running is seriously in my blood ;)
