I manage a country homestead and the lives of my 4 babies ages 10,8,5 and 3. I LOVE TO RUN and NEED to keep healthy and fit for my SANITY!! Seriously....All problems are solved when I am running.

Making MY health a priority allows me to be the mother and wife that I need to be for them.

Running the Race....

I know I have not posted much. I have been doing that on purpose. I put the kids in school this year to have a little more time to think. I still have 2 babies with me most of the time and so life is still very busy. Not homeschooling has simply freed up a little more mental time for me.

I have not been blogging much as I have been taking this time to be still and hear God's voice. I have been praying more, reading more, and listening a lot more.

I have been working on me. The person deep inside this body of mine and listening to her voice. Sometimes the voice inside clashes with God's voice and we duke it out. Lately God is winning and I'm slowly allowing Him to take control.

I am writing today because I believe that I have found MY verse. The verse that speaks to me. The verse that keeps me going both spiritually, physically and emotionally...and as always I can apply it directly to running ;)

Hebrews 12: 1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. 2. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God's throne. 3 Think of all the hostility he endured from sinful people; then you won't become weary and give up. 4 After all, you have not yet given your lives in your struggle against sin.

These 3 verses our not only for running but for life as well.

I'm seeing a Marathon in my future....I'm just sayin' ;)

Shaky Advice

I've kicked my coffee habit. I wake up every morning and make myself some water and lemon or add green tea.

The lemon helps to stimulate the digestive system in the morning. I'm waking it up telling it that it is time to eat and burn energy!

I need to eat for energy. I also need vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. I need all of these things to function at a higher level than I have been. This is also going to help my moods and my sleeping patterns. So on top of my pretty o.k diet I've been stuffing as much good for me things into my diet as possible lately.

This mornings wake up shake was this.....

One whole pear, frozen blueberries, filtered water, ginger root, lemon, avocado and a splash of Vit D/fish oil supplement. This tastes like crap but that is why I hid it in the shake ;)

Yummy!!! Even my kids drank some and LOVED IT!!!

I needed a change from my usual chunky Greens shake and I am glad I did.

The usual ingredients I play with are

apples/pears
blueberries/strawberries
avocado
spinach
parsley
romaine lettuce/arugula
celery
lemon/ginger
coconut milk/almond milk/rice milk
almonds
chia seeds/flax seeds
bananas
almond butter/organic natural peanut butter
organic cocoa powder
Agave nectar

This way I can have a berry type shake, cocoa type shake, tropical, greens type depending on my mood. This is also a GREAT WAY TO GET MY KIDS TO EAT stuff they normally won't touch.

So go ahead and experiment!!
My friend Kirsten over at Healthy Body/Healthy Mind has done a great little post on tips to get you started in the shake department as well. check her out. We all do things a little different and the more ideas the better !!!!

Drug Rehab

I take what I said in my last post back ;) I feel a little tired, cranky, headachy, and sick. I laid down and almost fell asleep on the couch at 11am. I almost took it out on the kids. All I wanted to do was to have a nap and let the time pass but I had to run. I planned to meet my friend.

I showed up feeling like I was being forced to run during rehab. I told Anita to ignore my swearing.

She did ;)

I thought I would come home and have a coffee so I could have energy for our party tonight.

Instead I have more energy and I just consumed another one of Shan's shakes. This one had cocoa and banana in it. I'll take the little bit of caffeine in the cocoa if it means I can be a good hostess tonight.

So there you have it. Fitness is not always easy to do but I did it and I'm better off for it. If I can do it, so can you ;)

Interview and Caffeine Free!!

Part Two of my interview with Annett Davis is up. Thank you Annett for editing my verbal diarrhea so well ;). You can find it by clicking on Fitmomsfitkidsclub.com. Today it is on the main page but it can also be found under the news heading and Fit Chat with Annett.

On another note....

I'm Day 2 of being COFFEE FREE!! I didn't think I could do it. I like my morning coffee and I was dreading the 4 day coffee withdrawal symptoms. I wanted to cut out the addiction as I prepare to train for the Half Marathon. I need to optimize my nutrition and limit dehydration. Getting off coffee will also stabilize my moods. Saying that coffee makes me nicer is just the addiction talking. I would be much nicer and less grumpy if I did not crave caffeine in the first place.

So far however I have yet to experience a headache. I'm a little more tired than usual in the afternoon but that will change in a few days.

Every morning I wake up and have hot water and lemon as the lemon helps to stimulate my digestive tract. Then I continue with my Good AM greens Shake as described on Shan larter's website.
At first drinking parsley, celery and lettuce made me gag, but after adding more lemon, ginger root and water I LOVE IT!!
