I manage a country homestead and the lives of my 4 babies ages 10,8,5 and 3. I LOVE TO RUN and NEED to keep healthy and fit for my SANITY!! Seriously....All problems are solved when I am running.

Making MY health a priority allows me to be the mother and wife that I need to be for them.

She Did It!!

We Did It!!!! Lara and I ran our first race together, and I don't mean that we started together. We actually ran the entire thing TOGETHER!
I am one happy mama right now. I am so proud of my little eight year old who finished FIRST in her age category. According to my watch her time was 26:40? for a 5km run. Wow!!
At first I was thinking that my competitive nature would kick in and that I would want to run as hard as I could so I could place in my own age category. Once we started running I realized that there would not be any medal won that could replace the joy of running along side her.
Little did I know just how fast she would go, and just how much SHE would keep ME going !!
Thank you Lara for being a part of something that is special to me and forcing me to get off the couch this morning and put on my running shoes.

I title the above picture ''what IS THAT??''
Look closely at my arms. Once again a reminder of why skinny chicks still need to do some push ups every once in a while. I would hate the see what ELSE would be flapping around if it wasn't for spandex...oh boy ;)

Proud Canada Day Moments

When you see pictures of yourself do you see a stranger? I do. I look at the picture and think really? I look like that? The picture below is a good one I think. But all the others...not so good. I have to admit that I think I like living in denial. I would much rather go through the day thinking I look younger and hotter than I am.....sigh....I'm getting older and I hate it.

I'm just saying. I'm proud to be a fit mom but I would like to stay a fit/good looking mom! hahahaha.

I digress...

This Canada Day 5km race was pretty special. This is me running my PB for this year after running only twice in two months...

This is Lara running HER first race. She Did great. I love that SHE loves to run as well.

And this is my friend ANITA!! Who has never run before, just had her fourth baby (all her babies were super close together), and has ONLY been running for 9WEEKS!!!!

She did GREAT and it was a VERY PROUD moment for me. I've had 6 friends/neighbors/fellow bloggers go from 'Oh I could NEVER' be a runner, to HALF marathoners!! But SHE DID IT! and it was the first time I got to see her run. I think I even cried. Way to go Anita!!!! I call it now. You and I will be running a half TOGETHER.
And as for Kristy,Tat,Rhonda,Andrea,Tammi, and Cathy....I remember the day you started to run and my heart leaps for joy like the proud mama I am.

Your next Kirsten ;)

Runners Low today???

I just ran the California run 10km. I did pretty well considering I had not run 10km in about 2 years. I did it in 56:22 and my knee did not hurt.

I could have run the 5km but figured that I would want to race it. Running the 10km and knowing I had to go slow to make it FORCED me to stay slow and not hurt myself. That's runners logic for you. Run longer so I don't hurt myself. Makes sense to me ;)

I have to admit that I am experiencing a runners 'low' right now. I normally am on such a high after a run. Today was different and I'm not sure why. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that I went to the race by myself and I didn't have anyone to share the experience with. It was quite lonely. I did know about 4 people but all of them are part of the local running group and could not have cared less that I was there. I don't think they meant to be as rude as they were but that is how I felt. Oh well. Perhaps I needed to be more outgoing and assertive. Maybe they think I'm a snob and didn't want to talk to them?? Who knows. Most people don't go out of their way to be rude...they just get caught up with their own thing. Maybe that is the case here.

I think NOT being part of a running group is the real issue here. In Kingston I had that. I had the support and encouragement and felt a part of something. I was able to share with others my love of running. I try to do things for myself but I feel super guilty when I leave the kids with other people for 3 hrs at a time for various reasons. I know I need time to myself and time to do the things I love but it is hard when it is MY 'job' to be here. Besides... I DO want to be here to feed them supper and put them to bed every night. They will only be small once....So I just hang on to the idea that some day...some day I'll have time to train for my marathon. Some day I'll have the time that I want to put into it.

I'm just tired. It's Sunday today and I'm going to rest.

Summer Olympics Running team 2012?? Hahaha

I have not been running much this month. I have been fighting a cold for the past few weeks, but to be honest I just have not felt much like running. I've been doing some great Yoga at the YMCA instead and doing a couple of treadmill runs but that is it.
So today's freeze UR Buns run was a little painful to say the least. I pushed myself to my limit and it felt great. Adam came with me this time. He is SUCH a great running partner. In fact, he is just a great partner ;)
I KNOW he can run faster than me, but he stuck with me the entire time and right at the end he pulled back to allow me to cross first.
Thanks hunny. And thanks Grandma for watching all the kiddies.

Froze My Buns Today!!

Race number 2 of the season complete! The Freeze UR Buns Run was FUN! Cold, but fun. The wind died down and the sun was shinning, so it did not feel like the -20C it is. BRRRRRRR.

Beat my 5km time by over 3 minutes however. Can't be unhappy about that. All the treadmill running has paid off. I even had to stop and tie my shoe ;)

I became a member of the Road Runners and I'm determined to run every race this year. It took a little coordination and help from Grandma to get all the kids sorted out by we did it. I like having the support of a running club behind me AND the accountability. I am a competitive person so knowing I beat my own previous time was quite satisfying. Passing a few more people than last time was nice as well ;)
