I manage a country homestead and the lives of my 4 babies ages 10,8,5 and 3. I LOVE TO RUN and NEED to keep healthy and fit for my SANITY!! Seriously....All problems are solved when I am running.

Making MY health a priority allows me to be the mother and wife that I need to be for them.

How????

51 Days to go until the Marathon and 18 until the Half. The Half I'm ready for....The Marathon not so much.

Since When did a Half Marathon...like 21kms become NOTHING??

How did THAT happen??

One Step at a time I suppose.

I remember the first night I ran in University like it was yesterday. I was a good 25 pound over weight. I ran at night in as much loose clothing as I could. I plugged away at 3kms. At the end  I was sweaty and tired, and was so proud of myself for getting out that door.

I remember running for the first time after each of my babies. Overweight and feeling dumpy, running in as loose a clothing as I could find trying so hard not to be embarrassed.  I used to close my eyes every time a car passed and tried to pretend they could not see me.

I remember running after my spinal surgery. Taking one step at a time. I remember running after my knee injury and wondering if I would ever run again.

I ALSO remember....

Running 5 kms for the first time and beating my old record. Coming in second place several times in my age category. Getting faster. Getting stronger. Adjusting my nutrition. Losing the weight.

I remember pushing myself past a difficult km and glad that I did it. I remember sticking to my plan no matter what. I remember the  rush of adrenalin and the realization that I can do anything if I just stick with it. I remember the hard work and how good it feels to accomplish something for myself. I remember the sound of my breath on the silent country roads.

I remember the 1/2 Marathon last year and how strong I was at the finish. I remember surprising myself that I could do something so crazy.

So I guess that is how it happened....One Step at a time.

That is also how the Marathon will happen...and I will hold onto that.

This is so true. I am training for my first marathon coming up at the end of May. I've got a few 1/2's under my belt and did a 30k race a few weeks ago.
I too remember starting the learn to run program and barely making it through the 1 minute run. My first 5k race seemed impossible.
Now, I laugh when I hear myself say "I'm only doing 16km today"
It's amazing how fast your body can adapt. Good luck to you!
