Counting Calories

O.K. I have been stuck at my current weight for over two months now. Adding Yogurt to my daily food intake and working out 3 times a week has definitely been helping. I only have 10 pounds or so to go but I am seriously becoming impatient.

My pre pregnancy jeans only come up to my thighs and at this point my fat pants are still quite uncomfortable. I know my husband likes this new curvy me but I don't and that is what matters.

So....for the next MONTH I am officially on a diet. Sort of.

I checked out Lance Armstrong's website LivingStrong. On it there is an AMAZING Calorie counter. You plug in your specifics along with activity level and how much you want to lose a week. THEN it gives you the calories you are allowed to eat.

All you need to to after that is input everything you eat and watch what happens!

I like that is tracks the sodium content, protein consumption and all of that stuff for me.

Only ONE problem...

I'm kind of tiny already and I LOVE to eat. So for ME to lose a pound a week I can only consume 1700 calories a day compared to my husbands 3000. So annoying but I guess if I want to lose these last 10 pounds I need to sacrifice somehow. It will also motivate me to work out more so I can eat more!!

Here is goes.... 10 weeks of Livestrong. I should be able to lose one pound a week on this 'diet'.

I am a FIRM believer that not all calories are created equal. If you choose to eat food that comes from a package in any form, choose only that which has significant nutrients- something redeeming- protein, vitamins, minerals fibre... Don't get sucked in by calories, just eat what fuels the body. I have a friend who eats a pack of gobstoppers as a treat because they are only x calories. BAD bad move. Empty carbs and sugar litterally leach (leech?) nutrients from your stores in order to be processed, and the effect on blood sugar causes- you guessed it- weight gain. Not a good thing. Why don't you adhere to the following two rules for a week or two and see how it goes (they look simple, but are pretty tough):

1) Only whole grains (no white rice, no white pasta, no 'enriched wheat flour'). Keep an eye on cornstarch and other no-nutrient diet busters.
2) No refined sugar. If you're craving something sweet, use honey, eat a date (mmmm medjool dates...), use agave, brown rice syrop...maple syrop...in moderation. This means reading labels- no glucose, fructose, dextrose, sucrose, etc. No brown sugar (it's just white sugar with molasses) and no white sugar. You'll be surprised where sugar hides: soup, broth, bread (loaded with sugar- even the whole grain, healthy-looking stuff- but you CAN find honey-sweetened if you look hard), granola bars (garbage), yogurt (only plain- with honey if you please) etc. I could go on...

These two principles will leave you eating ridiculously well. Can you live with it???

I think you can. :)
