I manage a country homestead and the lives of my 4 babies ages 10,8,5 and 3. I LOVE TO RUN and NEED to keep healthy and fit for my SANITY!! Seriously....All problems are solved when I am running.

Making MY health a priority allows me to be the mother and wife that I need to be for them.

2011 is the Year of the Selfish

So this is my Christmas present to myself. The year 2011 is a HUGE year for me. 10 Years since my first date with my husband, 10years since becoming a Christian, 10 years of marriage, and 10 years since first becoming pregnant with our firstborn.

I declared 2011 the year Adam and I take some time and money and spend it on ourselves. Yes we are selfish but it is well deserved I would think. After all....a family is only as strong as the marriage that holds it together.

So other than doing some fun things together as a couple I have also decided that it is time for me to do something that I love. Something that will require a little bit of sacrifice from everybody else. You see other than being a wife and homeschooling mother of 4 I am also a person. A woman with desires and interests. Most of the things I do on a daily basis are not about me. Not that I'm complaining AT ALL. I've chosen this wonderful life I live.

So because of that I've decided that it is time to fulfill one of my hearts desires. It is time for me to train for the half Marathon. It is just time. Time to love myself enough to allow myself to accomplish something I have always wanted to do.

I blogged a while ago how tired I am of being tired. I can't stand waking up every morning and grumbling until I have a coffee. I'm tired of not being as fit physically and mentally as I want and need to be.

Running has always been my thing. Always been my stress relief and it is time to do this.

So....Step one...

1) Set up a schedule for running and stick to it.
2) Set up a base for 3-4 weeks to build my endurance. Slow and steady is the key here. I need to be able to run 60-90 minutes a WEEK, so I'll break that up into 3 or 4 days.
3) Get rid of bad habits that cause me to be dehydrated and sluggish all the time. Yup...I'm giving up coffee folks
4) Begin my training program.....

I'm standing an applauding you! Go Alyson! And I will do the same if you run the Ottawa half :) And think a cruise w/ Adam is the perfect way to start the year that's focusing on you & your marriage.
