Ab workout number two complete for the week. How did I fit in mothering a toddler, cleaning, painting, chickens, making kids lunches, supper prep, baking cookies, blogging, AND ab workout?? Not to mention my 10km run tonight??
Easy. Planning.
AND
Who says I can't do sit ups while watching my Young and the Restless?? I have half an hour of complete silence and down time before Audrey wakes up and the kids get off the bus. I CHOOSE to sit at the computer while watching something fluffy on t.v, and blogging to you. It is all about priorities.
Oh, and I'm running with my friend while our kids are at a program tonight. The program is 1.5hrs. Perfect time for a 10km and stretch no?
Besides...
I'll be home by 8:30pm tonight and I will put my PJ's on and throw myself onto the couch for an hour before bed. I get down time, and that down time is sooooo nice when I know I've put in a days work.
Oh.... and that is just today. Every day can be as active and lazy as I want. The day I clean my house is NOT the day I do much other physical activity. It is all about balance, and frankly if I want to choose to 'take the day off' and do as little as I can I certainly will thank you very much...Sometimes The Young and the Restless needs my full undivided attention ;)
I manage a country homestead and the lives of my 4 babies ages 10,8,5 and 3. I LOVE TO RUN and NEED to keep healthy and fit for my SANITY!! Seriously....All problems are solved when I am running.
Making MY health a priority allows me to be the mother and wife that I need to be for them.

Do as I do
How do we teach our children character? How do we teach them to be healthy and enjoy an active lifestyle?
The same way we taught them how to walk and talk....
We lead by example.
It takes 20 minutes of your time. It takes staying in your pj's. It takes putting that coffee and book down you are enjoying in your sunporch. It takes buying used equipment. It takes doing it for yourself as well as for them.

GYM ETIQUETTE
For those of you new to the gym this year I have a few tips for you....
1) That big sign on the wall that says to limit your cardio for 35 minutes to allow others to use it during peek hours?? Just a suggestion.
2) The other big board next to it with the big marker? It is there so you sign up for the equipment and to be able to tell the next person just how long you are going to be on said equipment. Just ignore it as well. Keep us guessing.
3) If you feel that you look great in short shorts..Go right ahead. We are not staring at you. Besides, It's hot.
3) If you are a LARGE sweaty and hairy man, PLEASE wear a cut off t-shirt, say to the girl waiting for your treadmill "I warmed her up for y'a " and DON'T wipe it off. Whatever you do....Don't wipe it off.

No More Excuses
I'm a BUSY homeschooling mom of 4 kids 7,5,2 and 3months.
Don't have time or the energy to work out?
Make Time.
Schedule it. Don't give yourself a chance or an excuse to be lazy.
I drop the two little ones off at the playcare at the YMCA, drop the two oldest off in the pool for swimming lessons and get on the treadmill for the ONLY 20minutes I have. I run hard and it feels good.
The house is left in disarray and I leave in my jogging suit, bed head and unwashed face. Who cares. I'm a mom and I can stick a hat on.
Now I feel great and have MORE energy than I did before the run.
So there....Don't have a YMCA membership??? Do you ever drop your kids off at an activity and just sit there??? Go for a walk while you wait.
So there. No more excuses.

Another Date night, Another Run
Amazing how ALL of life's problem seem to have a solution after a good run. Again I highly recommend running before getting ready for a night out.
You feel energized, your circulation flows better, you feel better in your nice clothes, and help your body to start burning up those extra holiday calories.

Exercise before a DATE!
We had Date night last night.
We went for a run together and then headed out for Supper.
Running together is special for us and I'm glad we have physical fitness in common.
Doing it together reminds us of why we fell in love and what we have in common.
We also have eating in common and going out for a great supper with friends was nice too. Running before hand allows us to feel better about drinking a little wine and eating more food. Also helps me to feel better in my clothes.
All in all exercise before a date is highly recommended ;)

Setting the Example
I was posting this picture of my fabulous husband on my other blog when I thought of something relevant to share on this FIT mom blog.Want healthy children? Want them not to be lazy and sit in front of the t.v or computer all day??
SET THE EXAMPLE
They are watching you and taking cues from you.
Think you are too old??
BAH!!!! That is nonsense. The less you move the less you will be able to move. The more you move the better you will feel.
Too tired?? Do yourself a favor and pry your butt off the couch and go for a 10 minute walk. You may surprise yourself and have MORE energy and sleep much better!!
Really...I'm not joking... Try it.
You may be pleasantly surprised at the results. Unless you WANT to be old and lazy and have overweight and lazy children too ;)
Just a thought.
