I manage a country homestead and the lives of my 4 babies ages 10,8,5 and 3. I LOVE TO RUN and NEED to keep healthy and fit for my SANITY!! Seriously....All problems are solved when I am running.

Making MY health a priority allows me to be the mother and wife that I need to be for them.

First 12km run Complete

I managed to complete my first ever 12km training run today. I have to admit that it was not as bad or painful as I expected it to be.

The Prep:

We had pasta the last two nights and I made sure I started the day hydrated.

The Result:

I ran it in 1 hr and 12mins. I walked every 10mins for 1min, and during that break sipped 1-2oz of water and about a half an ounce of that goopy energy get stuff.

I ran faster the second half than the first and did not feel any muscle tightening in my legs until about 48mins. I stretched my calves and hamstrings for a moment and that seemed to make a huge difference in the last part of my run.

I discovered that running with a metal water bottle SUCKS. I also discovered that I could only handle 6-7 ounces of water over the hour. Things may change when the weather warms up. I'm thinking of buying a tiny water bottle for each hand, and replace them halfway during the run. I would just have to drive the route ahead of time and put the bottles alongside the road.

Recovery Plans:

Lots of stretching, a small sandwich and a bunch of 1% chocolate milk. Tonight lasagna is on the menu and of course water.

I was supposed to run Sunday and have today off. If I'm going to get my 4 runs in this week I may have to run tomorrow. If I do I won't do the recommended hill workout but instead Thursdays EASY 5km. We'll see....

Until Then!

I have a running water belt thingy (what the heck do you call those things?) that holds two smallish bottles of water on a pretty pink belt. Dylan bought it for me at the Running Room. You're welcome to borrow it through your half marathon but I have goals of starting to run again and may want it back by summertime. I'm going to see Val in a couple of weeks and could pass it to her then.
